Top Trends of Kitchen Designs Preferred by Generation X

Generation X” What does this term mean ? This term was originally coined by Robert Capa, a photographer in 1950s. He used this term as the title of a photo-essay which was about a young man and a woman who grew up just after the Second World War. This “ X” means the unknown.

As for now in general, generation x means the new generation. With every new generation and age, a new trend or style marks a departure from the previous era. Kitchen being the heart of the house, is the most important part of the house. Therefore, updating it generates a new life among the members of the house.

Who doesn't like to update their kitchen? Everyone, regardless of old and new generation, wants to design their kitchen according to the new trends. Whereas the young homeowners want the newest trend in their new kitchen, the older generation wants to update it to the latest trends.

So far kitchen design trends are concerned, there is a very small difference between the old people and the young generation. A question that the younger generation with kids asks that is, will the material used in the kitchen be strong enough to withstand the kids? This particular question is not asked by the older generation. Other than this question, things are almost same in the old and the new generation kitchen trends.

Here is a detailed study of the kitchen choices preferred mostly by the generation X:

1. Generation X kitchen choices:

The younger generation is very much practical and tries to find out a solution logically.

Generally, they like an open kitchen design, having a larger island with facility of seating and dining. A peninsula will also be a good option instead of an island if there is a space crunch.

Some of the additional things that the newer generation wants are:

  • Wet bars

  • Smaller refrigeration

  • Pet feeding station.

  • Technology charging station.

Now, when style is concerned:

1. White lacquer combining with dark wood goes really well.

2. Melamine is also there but it's just a cost effective alternative to white lacquer.

3. Minimalistic, streamlined and very simple design without any handle is what is preferred.

Though white is the favorite color of most of the couples, but single men and women opt for grey kitchens most of the time.

2. How do the couple with kids choose their kitchen?

The aesthetics do not differ a lot with the couples having kids, they also see the white lacquer as their first choice. But sometimes the practical condition bounds them to have an all-wood-kitchen-design or may be the melamine matrix( they are actually very durable). While lacquer is being used, it should be stored in the upper cabinets that are out of the kid's reach.

Actually, the generation X wants surfaces those are easy to maintain, may be like the engineered quartz. These surfaces are also non-porous and good. Moreover, tall pantry cabinets are good places to hide things (if the things are threatening for the children) from kids and keep them safe. An open plan kitchen will work really good with an island or peninsula. It will be better if an additional nook with the table in the kitchen is provided to make an adequate no of different seating areas within the kitchen. This particular kitchen plan works really well for the modern kitchens because it keeps away the traffic flow from the main workspace. This also provides the kids enough place to carry on with their home work while their parents cook right in front of them.

The real motive is to create a kids-friendly area or may be a breakfast bar having refrigerated drawers for the drinks, then toaster, popcorn maker, blender and also a small microwave.

Summing up:

The generation X thinks it diplomatically and do not want to over burden it with a lot of stuffs. But they want a kitchen design that is flexible and brings the family together and generate love. What is your take on this kind of kitchen design? Do share your ideas with us.
